This is the el cheapo edition I used to introduce dozens of students to Kafka. Anyone who's read Kafka has probably read "The Metamorphosis," his short story masterpiece. But the others in this collection are worth reading as well, notably: "A Country Doctor" (very dark Gothic paranoia) and "In the Penal Colony" (brutal, bizarre anticolonialism). Regarding the latter story, my friend German professor Gary Bartlett and I agreed that it is the weirdest of Kafka's many exceptionally weird stories.
