The Name of the Rose The Name of the Rose
by Umberto Eco

Somehow I don't think I'm ever going to get around to scaling the Everest of The Da Vinci Code, but maybe sometime I'll try this instead, it looks kind of similar.... I'm sure Dan Brown won't mind if I skip him, he's got plenty of money already. This obscure Umberto Eco guy probably needs me more than Brown does, wouldn't you say?

One time I knew this guy named Umberto, but he was Dominican so of course he spelled it "Humberto." Man, was I embarrassed.

335159 DVC is trash. Name of the Rose is not. That said, I didn't much like it.

187043 Da Vinci Code is hardly an "Everest" -- more like a little foothill. Name of the Rose is actually a lot more challenging, but even if you don't get a lot of the Latin and religious references, it's a ripping yarn.

422624 I could not read this book at all. I don't think i got through page 2, though people kept telling me I should read it because of my medieval phase. I thought it was unreadable.

The Da Vinci Code was very amusing however, though definitely lightweight. But some of his stuff IS convincing, like when you go back and look at the Leonardo's Last Supper you can see his point.

74277 the thing is he stole the whole book from leigh and baigent's "holy blood, holy grail". it's just bad form, regardless of the merits, or lack thereof, of his own novel. i'm surprised you found tnotr unreadable. do you like other eco?
