The beginning is a bit slow (about the first third of the book), describing the everyday lives of fairly mundane people. I understand the necessity of it, in order to show how much these people change by the end, but it's still tedious to slosh through. The rest of the book, until the last couple of chapters is great--I didn't want to put it down. But I also don't like the ending--it seems pointless to me, even if it is meant to be realistic.
