** spoiler alert ** For me, personally, I found the book to be dull and very predictable. I was very disappointed because it had such good reviews. Maybe it was because I had read several Pulitzer prize novels in a row, and it just didn't fare well in comparison? Still, I have read enjoyable historical romance in the past, and this wasn't for me.

As I said, the story is a historical fiction. It's simply written, a pre-teen could easily read it (without running into any of those bodice ripper obligatory scenes, which is a plus, IMO). There's plenty of Revolutionary war history in there. The story is about a poor orphan girl who was a seamstress, met a few rich guys, and she spied for a bit. You can fill in the blanks pretty easily. The end.
