it was ok

I’ve been trying to stay away from Paranormal YA since I rarely seem to enjoy them lately. Nevertheless, I picked up a copy of Ripple because I’ve never read anything involving sirens. And hey, it’s a stand-alone novel – something extremely rare in Paranormal YA.

It was a quick read and it was interesting to learn about Lexi’s curse - though I wish the siren mythology was explored a little more. It was easy to empathize with Lexi and I could just imagine how hard the situation was for her and how difficult it must have been to shut everyone out to ensure their safety. When the opportunity to break her curse came up, I understood her decision, though I didn’t necessarily agree with it.

However, I felt that the story was a bit too predictable. There was a bit of a twist near the end,but everything worked out exactly how I expected it to. The romance, although sweet, wasn’t really something swoon-worthy – I was hoping for something with a little bit more intensity.

Also, I’ve got a few issues with the cover of this book. I thought the colors and the scales-effect on Lexi’s legs were pretty, but I thought her position and posture was kind of awkward. And Cole looks nothing like what I imagined him to be. Maybe that had something to do with my not getting on board the romance as much as I wanted to.

So, while I didn’t hate the book, I can’t say that I really liked it either.:(
