Yet another book with alternating points of view--one chapter is the mother's; the next chapter is the daughter's. I'm guessing the reason for that in this story is so the reader can know what each character is thinking about the other. You know, the overprotective, almost smothering mother who believes she's looking out for her darling daughter's best interests...and the bordering on surly teenager who wants her mother to give her some breathing room.

Seems like I've read a lot of books lately involving a secret or disobedient bus ride. The destinations of those rides provide the very piece the character needs to finish their particular puzzle. Yep, there is such a bus ride in this novel.

This is only my opinion, but I find that Jennifer Weiner feels obligated to write about fat women. She reminds you over and over and over again how a particular character knows she's fat, and what that does to her self-esteem, her every mood, etc. Along with this comes very descrip...more
