I was never too into Iron Man back when I was reading and collecting comics. However, when my buddy, Erik, recommends a book, it's gonna' be good. Iron Man: Extremis is no exception. Tony Stark (Iron Man) is a complex character dealing with the devil of military weapons development to open the doors to technological advancement for the betterment of humanity. Mallen, the supervillain in this one, is a dumb, damaged redneck hate monger out for revenge against the world. He gets his hands on a super technovirus that makes him superhuman. Iron Man battles Mallen twice, getting badly beaten the first time then taking the technovirus himself to save his life and better prepare for the rematch. Flashbacks to Iron Man's origin provide the perfect opportunity to show the original Iron Man suit, a marked contrast to the sleek, modern design of the current suit. And check out the twist at the end! Good stuff!

Adi Granov's art is gorgeous. His painting conveys the sense of action so necessary to comic book art. Of course, the writing is outstanding, which is what you expect and receive from the talented Warren Ellis.
