this book is both illuminating and all-too-familiar. when i lived in central wisconsin, i would stand up for choice at anti-choice rallies. having been at the brunt of anti-choice crazies (the missionaries to the pre-born), i have a tiny taste of the harassment and intimidation directed towards clinics. the measures taken by the author (disguises, being smuggled into the clinic, arriving at sporadic times) are necessary, if ridiculous. they should simply not have to be faced by a doctor performing legal procedures. but, that's the reality of the united states.
the most interesting part of the story, for me, was dr. wicklund's quest to provide womyn-centric services - in all aspects of reproductive health - including counseling and referrals. the creation of this environment, due to the author's previous (im)personal experiences, was the real story for me. although, the stories of the various people she and her staff help are quite illuminating as well. this book provides ...more
