when i was growing up, my father referred to my older sister sister, as "the bad seed"--she was 10 years older than me. i did not understand the reference, until i was sat in front of the television one day, with father, and watch the movie, based on this novel. now, my sister did not kill anyone, but she did have many of the same mannerisms, and still does--to get her way. i went through a phase, where i read the books that my favorite classic films were based on. this book takes things father, deeper, and more haunting. you feel for the mother, as she slowing starts to put the pieces of the puzzle to together, and the horror of her discovery. some scenes in the book, i so wish were in the movie. both stand alone separate for their merits. the book really creeped me on on a different level, than the movie. more creepie still, when you, as a little girl, grew up with a bad seed in your family.
