This book had so many stories - all intertwined. So were old stories and some were newer stories. A movie star whose mother, whose mother had been an author of children's books and was deemed as eccentric by many, had died at the age of 30. The movie star was rather burned out on the Hollywood scene, having just been dumped by her husband for a school teacher. She retreats to her childhood home to stay with her mother's brother & his wife to write a screenplay about her mother. Her uncle has kept the journals his sister started writing at the age of 13 and he gives those to his niece - 1 at a time. There is a romantic interest - a disgraced archaeologist who is a friend and colleague of her uncle. This man is there to work on a minor dig on the family property. There are several shattering reveals throughout. All in all - it was a story I could not put down and that was deeply moving on many levels.
