Read from October 07 to 09, 2011, read count: 2

I could have sword that I've read this book before, yet the only thing I remembered was the white rose and the fact that one of the characters was a Marquis. Everything else seemed completely unfamiliar. After reading Goose Girl, I had the sudden urge to read this one, seeing as it had been nearly 10 years since I read it the first time.

Of course, it got a bit frustrating at times, but then again, so does any plot that involves a good court intrigue. All of the characters are easy to adore (when you're supposed to--like Nee and Bran and even the Marquis when the time calls for it). The best bits were when Mel acts purely on instinct and doesn't sit around to try and second-guess things--such as when she was in the court facing off against the King for the first time, or in the battle with the Marquis and Bran against the King. Shows off her true character, and much more enjoyable than her trying to figure out just who was lying and who was telling the truth.
