A complicated, beautiful world with believable characters. Ellysetta is very good - you can feel her innate niceness, but she doesn't come across as saccharine or a goody two shoes. The Queen is growing darker by the day, the King seems blind to her failings, the evil Eld seem something to fear, and Rain obviously has some issues.

Overall however, my favorite character was Bel. He made me fall head over heels in love with his sad soul.

Really liked this first book and hope the rest of the series continues to be as compelling.
