This book, the only one of its kind, provides a practical solution to the increasing endangerment and extinction of native Midwestern plants and flowers and the wildlife that depend on them. The authors systematically suggest a wide array of native Midwest flora of similar or identical appearance and growing requirements, to replace the popular introductions (nonnatives) we otherwise choose for our backyard gardens and public landscapes. The book reveals the unique role played by native flowers and plants in insect reproduction by documenting the specific native "host plants" that specific butterfly species require for successful reproduction (laying eggs).
