Jared pointed out to me that Bechdel can be a little too literary at times, and it's true. Her metaphors are a bit perfect, in the way that they run through the whole book and illuminate this and that in just the right light. Still, it's a pleasure to read something that has pictures _and_ is absolutely suffused with books at the same time. I read a lot of her "Dykes to Watch Out For" stuff when I was growing up--some indie comics I used to buy--and I've always been a fan of her art, too. It's simple, but the characters tend to move right, and they wear interesting things. This just takes that and adds depth. Although, I must say, she perhaps should have known her dad was gay from the jean shorts she draws him as wearing.
