Cooking Light Complete Cookbook: A Fresh New Way to Cook (Cooking Light)
by Cooking Light
I get the Cooking Light magazine, and they have a lot of really good recipes that aren't that hard to follow. I have faith in you!
Jill,
As tempted as I am to make jokes about your setting back the "womans movement" or other such nonsense with your sudden sense of urgency to learn to cook before walking down the aisle, I am actualy going to recommend a book instead:
if you are truely, utterly clueless about cooking, this book is about the most user friendly, VERY BASIC cookbook I've ever seen (I bought it for a friend, never gave it to him and refer to it more than I care to admit).

As far as the "Cooking Light" goes, I find that those recipes are great as long as you replace all the "low fat" ingredients with the real thing. The "Best of Cooking Light" is fairly substantial in size and serves well as a bookend.
Jill--this one is great, too. It is vegetarian, but I swear--EVERY TIME I make something out of it, people love it. It's all so easy, too. It isn't low-cal, though, that's for sure.
You could always get "A Man With a Can and a Plan". They are all super easy recipes that start with a can of soup. I got it for Drew when he moved out on his own.
I've really created an impression that I'm interested in Low Cal based on adding this book to my to-read shelf. Really I'm interested in having someone cook for me, low cal or not while I watch "So You Think You Can Dance." Is that too much to ask?
Exciting news: We've picked our plates from macys! I had tim choose them--and told him I wouldn't judge. Then I judged and we ended up with the ones on the registry.
I'm not easy to be with. Tim supposedly knows what he's in for.
Anyway, i'm sure that the Cooking Light collection will look quite lovely on the dishes.
Marie pointed out that I didn't provide a link to the vegetarian cookbook I was talking about and that I looked like an idiot. Here you go!
