I make allowances for Day of the Triffids being written in the 1950s. The world building of the majority of the world going blind holds up, as well as the flesh eating plants. I have a fondness for stories that can take an over the top, ridiculous premise such as the triffids and seriously look at the consequences. Windham shows the different types of social orders and coping strategies that could come up after such a major disaster. However, the gender politics was dated in its assumptions, and almost enough to throw me out of the book several times.
