Defy Not the Heart (Shefford's Knights, #1)

I picked this book up purely for the comic value of the front cover. It has Fabio on it. It wasn't as great as some of her other works, but I found the hero to be quite humerous in a very serious sort of way. Ranulf contemplates taking a job to collect a reluctant bride, agrees to investigate and may or may not take the job, his decision based only on his own whim. He decides to take the job but hasn't told the groom he would, nor when to expect the job to be completed. The heroine, Reina, learns of his desire to be a land baron and makes him an offer he can't refuse. Her theory is better the devil you know vs. the devil you don't know. What follows is a story of a man who cannot beleive he has the wife he has - she's beautiful to him and he finds her highly entertaining and suffers from "gotta have it right now" lust which leaves Reina frustrated and unsatisfied. There are many humerous side stories throughout this novel from Ranulf visiting a whore to ask advice on how to make love to his wife to Reina's homosexual manservant who attends her as a maid. It was a quick read and enjoyable.
