I didn't have a very strong desire to read this, but it's one of those arcs that a lot hinges on and I've felt lost lately reading the monthlies. (I learned my lesson skipping Grant Morrison on the "X-Men" and not understanding an X book for years afterwards.)
This volume has a decent enough story, and though computer-enhanced art usually makes me cringe, Granov's stuff is eye-popping. But, as is too often the case with Ellis, a lot of the dialogue feels like Warren Ellis talking and not the characters, especially when they veer off into techno-babble and futurist jargon. And though I don't particularly like Tony Stark jabbing himself full of Extremis and switching his brain into a supercomputer with godlike powers, that's probably due more to the lesser writers who followed. Here, it works. This arc is also the genesis for a lot of little touches in the film and is probably the book I'd hand a fan of the movie looking to get into the comics.
