I found this, like every other one of Willis's books so far, both engrossing and frustrating. The aimless, wordy, circular, redundant fretting by the characters reaches a fever pitch. (view spoiler) This book really needs a chart like this: http://xkcd.com/657/large/. In the end, I was moved by how the characters are drawn into the selfless spirit of the survivors of the Blitz, but annoyed by many aspects of the book itself.

Renata I do agree! I'm listening the the Doomsday book which means I can't skim and sometimes it is quite exasperating. And yet...I love her characters always and the compelling ways she finds to bring each time truly to life. Have you read Lincoln's Dreams? It is her only concise book and I wept when I finished.
