This is the first book in a young adult paranormal series by Kelly Armstrong, bestselling author of the Women of the Otherworld series for adults. I'll admit that I am very annoyed with it simply because it swept me up into interesting characters and began an action sequence that won't end until the next book. I hate that. But that's a testament to her amazing story telling talent--the reader REALLY wants to know what happens next. The premise is a home for disturbed teenagers. But it doesn't take long for newcomer Chloe Saunders, sent there because she freaked out when she saw a ghost in her high school hallway, figures out that these kids all have something special about their problems. Helping them, it begins to appear, is NOT what this home is about.

I think fans of Meyer's books (though there is no romance in this first book at least) or Westerfeld's series will go crazy over this trilogy. Armstrong's existing fan base should also get a kick out of it, young adult fiction or not.
