** spoiler alert ** The main character is Nefai, who is leading his family on an epic journey. Set in the far future, Nefai is bringing his family back to Earth after humanity's having been gone for 40 million years. I got this book in the PX in Kuwait while deployed and started reading it not knowing he had sci-fi'd up 1st Nephi (from the Book of Mormon). I figured it out after about 1/2 a chapter. I had a hard time getting past the fact that he took an existing book and rewrote it in a different time period. Is that legal? I guess so. He won an award for the series. I didn't make it through the 2nd book and didn't read the third book in the series. Maybe I'll give 2 and 3 another try now that the shock has worn off. Sometimes I find Card's descriptions hard to follow - another reason I stopped reading book 2. I remember that there were some attack bats. Weird.
