Strange story and an even stranger main character. I wanted to like this book mainly because it deals with a moral conscious character who happens to be in the cloak and dagger business. A hitman, an assassin who begins to question his actions and his place in the afterlife and God - his spiritual journey. Answer comes through an enigmatic angel, Malchiah, and in nature was reminiscent of Admiral Al Calavicci of the Quantum Leap TV show. And lastly it also deals with time travel.

Its all very interesting and as I said I really wanted to like this book more but I just could not. I had trouble relating with the main character's lack of emotion, and other human responses amidst situations what we consider out of the ordinary, other worldly and beyond belief. It seemed broken, hurried in the last parts, and dry. I might give it another chance some day cause I really like Rice's writing style.
