it was amazing
bookshelves: folk-and-fairytales, fantasy, gentle-stories, juvenile-fiction
Recommended to Carmine by: found on the shelves of my public library
Read in January, 1986 , read count: several times

A favorite as a child, reread recently and loved it every bit as much. Can't wait to read it to my daughter.

The illustrations in the hardback make it worth trying to track down if possible.

This original fairytale makes a fantastic family read aloud. When a seventh daughter is born to King Hulderbrand and Queen Rhodesia, it is assumed Princess Amethyst will be the most beautiful and lovely of all the princesses until a cranky fairy godmother bestows her gift- "You shall be ordinary!" While the gift seems more like a curse to her family, Amethyst feels free to create her own life and have extraordinary adventures.
