New York to Dallas delivers all the excitement that expect from an Death novel and more. Robb, aka Nora Roberts, has this time created not just a monster as her antagonist, but brings in a seldom discussed monster from Detective Eve Dallas’s childhood and forces Eve to face her long-held fears. That monster, her mother, is truly as cruel and selfish as Eve remembers. In the end, though, in typical Eve Dallas form, she finishes her case to provide justice not just for the innocents that have been wronged, but for the mother who became a victim of ruthless killer, Isaac McQueen.
The majority of the story takes place not in New York, as the reader is most accustomed, but in Dallas, TX, the city from which Eve was rescued so many years earlier. This setting change has a tremendous impact on the story, allowing both Eve and the reader to relive the nightmares of her past so vividly.
I give this book five stars. It is a quick read. Once you pick it up, you truly have no desire to put it down. I, as the reader, also have the opportunity not just to read about Eve’s past, but the experience it with her. I definitely plan to keep it on my shelf.
