really liked it

Smoky Night by ve Bunting is an adorable tale about a night that leads to people and cats getting along. One night, Daniel and his mother look outside their window to find fires, riots, and looting in the streets. Momma describes to Daniel that riots occur because people are angry about something. After the riots have settled down and after the people have left the streets, momma and daniel head to bed. The mother and son duo are woken up by flames in the house. Daniel's cat Jessamine goes missing, along with a neighbors cat. The neighbor's cat and DAniel's cat do not get along. but after the fire, the two cats are found together, clutching each other for dear life. The two cats then become best friends and are inseparable ever since. This book is boldly illustrated with different textiles and mediums. The pictures are chaotic which directly represent the chaos of the riots and the fire. This story is a book about friendship and how overcoming a disaster can lead to all sorts of people coming together. The book would be a great book to read to a classroom, because the moral of the story is getting along with each other through different scenarios. I would definitely recommend reading this book. The only issue that I have with the book are the illustrations. I think they are confusing to a child and tend to focus on disorganization. This, for some kids, can be a huge distraction because they dont know what to focus on. Other than that, this book is really well written, and would be a great story for children.
