really liked it

Most of George Eliot's books are keepers and I re-read them and watch the movies made about them. However, as much as I enjoy lengthy detailed description and interior dialogue, I found this book a trite too didactic in the Zionist and moralistic musings of some of the characters. Nevertheless, I had to keep reading to learn the outcome (this one I hadn't read before), but was sorely disappointed that dear Gwendolyn, with all her painful character development, didn't get THE man in the end. I hope I didn't ruin it for anyone. It's well worth the read!
