"The Small Rain" is the story of Katherine and her life as she strives to be a pianist. I was drawn along by the charm of its writing, although there wasn't a lot I liked in the form of plot. Katherine has a mostly mediocre life, with some shots of misery and even fewer moments of happiness. Her skill as a pianist is touted but rarely questioned or described, and her attempts at love always come to some sad end. All in all, this is rather like reading a fictionalized biography of a girl/young woman. An interesting approach, but fairly boring plot-wise.
