I just finished this tonight. I'm not normally a fan of shouty capitals, but OMFG THIS BOOK WAS GOOD!!! It covers Edward Rochester's entire life, not just a brief overview of his life before Jane & equally brief glimpse into their lives after they're reunited & married. The writing style is wonderful. When I started it, I was dubious over the expansion of peripheral characters like Dr Carter ("who cares about him? he was in Jane Eyre for like five minutes...oh, that's why"). The author clears up things I'd always wondered about Adele, like how did she feel about all of this once she was grown herself? did her relationship with her guardian ever improve? etc. As cliche as it sounds, I really did laugh & cry at times over this book. Parts of it are simply porntastic...*girly sigh*. The story covers a huge chunk of time, but it never drags. It's so very clear just how deep Rochester's pain & joy is. I am tempted to say that there's waaaaayyyyy too much info re: the treatment of his injuries from the fire (seriously, it's horrifying), but it was really just too fascinating for me to wish it to have been written any other way. It's so cool to realize that I'm not the only one with a huge crush on a fictional character. I can definitely put this in the "reread someday" pile.
