Great escapist stuff.. a novel about how people in the future escape to the past (1980's?!) preferring the brighter, more colorful pixilated world online in the Oasis. The Oasis is a virtual Reality game where most people of the 2040's live out their lives online. Everyone is obsessed with completing a quest hidden within. Whoever solves the puzzle first will control a 240 billion dollar empire and own The Oasis. A pretty cool concept. I found the depiction of how real life was.. stacks of trailer houses, the idea of corporate indentured servitude.. what a nightmare.. to be more fascinating than some of the eighties trivia stuff.. The thought of any teenager in the future studying old reruns of Silver Spoons, Monty Python... and memorizing the lyrics of old eighties songs is quite depressing, as has been stated in other reviews.. Technologically interesting to get Cline's take on how things will evolve, with fancy suits and clunky suspended seating rigs, with multi-directional treadmills.. If you lived or just wish you had lived in the eighties, you should check this book out!
