I was initially concerned about my ability to finish a 600+ page book in two weeks, without the possibility of renewal. Especially a science fiction book. Not exactly my favorite genre.

However, I really liked it! So much that I read it in three days, despite have to go to work and school. Meyer does such a good job of universalizing whatever genre she chooses.

The story starts out (if you've read what she posted online, this is the first chapter) with human Melanie being given a Soul. Souls are the aliens that have invaded earth and use humans as host bodies. Souls are unusual aliens; they are totally non-violent. They invade places they think need their peaceful, non-confrontational ways, and in their opinion they have done Earth a kindness by taking it out of human control.

Back to Melanie - the minds of the humans vanish when the Souls enter, usually. This does not happen in Melanie's case, with her Soul, Wanderer. Wanderer can still hear Melanie all the tim...more
