Although this book doesn't take place in the village of Three Pines, as do most all of the other mysteries in this series, Chief Inspector Armand Gamache is present for another murder. This time it's over the mountain at the beautiful Manior Bellechaise where Armand and his wife are celebrating their wedding anniversary. And there are other ties to Three Pines, too. As it turns out, there is a family reunion at the manior that involves Peter and Clara Morrow from Three Pines. The wealthy and snobbish Finney family, of which Peter is a part, is dedicating a statue to their late, great father. But the mysteries begin when the family's secrets begin to come apart at the seams. Old feuds erupt to the surface and the long-estranged sister, Julia, is found dead - felled by the huge likeness of her father. The Chief Inspector must gather his team and expose more than this family is willing to share to get to the heart of a murder most foul. Very enjoyable read without all the goar of a typical murder mystery.
