Craig Thompson's art is as lush and flowing as always, but here he adds a lot of great formal tricks to his bag in terms of layouts and pacing. The story is entertaining and at times heavy, with humor thrown in liberally to keep things from getting too dark. It's an ambitious book that tackles a host of subjects, giving readers a lot to chew on. It's my personal preference to have less text, and so the short chapter of all text threw me off a bit, but Craig manages to finish the book on just the right emotional note (*SORT OF SPOILER ALERT*)- it's not something I would say is a happy ending, but it's a hopeful one, which I think makes it better.
