I sort of read this book. I had to return it to the library before I got a little more than half way through. Oddly though, I liked it second best in the series after Wicked. Maguire has a unique and wonderful prose style indescribable except to say it has a kind of Medieval roughness. However, his plotting is terrible.

This was a picaresque adventure (my least favorite) about Rain, the granddaughter of Elphaba, who, starting out in childhood, follows her destiny throughout Oz in the company of Brr (the cowardly lion), the keepers of the prophetic Clock of the Time Dragon, and her parents Liir and Candle. Too much going, not enough happening, very little plot.
