This isn't really sci-fi. The Martian scenario in the beginning served only to promote an Earthly counter-culture utopia. What is learned about Martians can be summarized in a few paragraphs, and the utopian possibilities aren't really explored. The last half of the book is mired in titillating details and inane dialogue. I did come to appreciate how well the story's events shaped the conclusion after I'd finished. Think the story would have had more impact if Heinlein would have taken a less scenic route to get there.
