I am a huge fan of Lisa See. I absolutely loved "Shanghai Girls" and "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan". I remember reading "Shanghai Girls" a few years ago and thinking, I cannot wait to read "Dreams of Joy". Well... it took a few years, but I can safely say that I am still a huge See fan.

This novel is a continuation of "Shanghai Girls" as it follows Joy back to China in a search to find her birth father. Shanghai has changed drastically from the time of her mother and aunt - it is no longer the Paris of Asia. Life is tough. Food is scarce. People are dying of starvation and living in fear of being reported. Again, See is able to transport her reader back into different time with ease. Her writing is amazingly detailed and her characters are beautifully written.

Definitely would recommend this book :)
