I feel like there is a missing link between this book and the last one that I missed. It seems like there was parts of the larger storyline, in regards to who all sleeps with Anita and her Marshall status, that fast forwarded without a clear explanation.
I also am getting a little tired with this series. It hasn't quite reached the series dying a slow death category that seems to be emerging for me, but is heading down that road. I think what makes this series hit these buttons is all the drama in Anita's life. Yes, she manages a lot of men, it has to be hard, but they have to get over their issues. I like that some of them are being forced into it, and all I can say is that it is about time.
I felt like this book was divided into 2 parts. The first part Anita is with the police, it felt like the first 6-8 books of the series. We see characters that we haven't for a long time. I actually found myself hating Larry due to his small-mindedness and it surprised me. I also find myself wondering why Zebrowski refers to himself as Anita's partner. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but it seems to come out of left field. Also I don't remember Dolph getting over his anger with Anita, yet now he is back to normal. I am not sure what to think of the new Marshall. Part of me is waiting to see him part of a secret group and is there to take down Anita and company, as it seemed like he was pumping her for info. But another part of me wants to accept his story for what it was.
The other part with the supernaturals was more of the same we have seen, drama, drama, drama. I did really like the small girl moments that happened between Anita and Claudia.
While I will keep reading this series, I just don't run out to get the book right away or read it the minute I get it from the library. In fact I had this one about 1 1/2 weeks before I picked it up.

I skipped your review, just caught the first paragraph. Did read Beauty? I know it is a novella before this book. Haven't read it so not sure if it is the missing link you described.
