I was lucky enough to get to read this book just before the publication date on an ARC (advance reader copy) book tour hosted by the blog Once Upon a Twilight. I have always loved adventure books, and in the past few years have discovered a love for fantasy books, too. This YA book is the perfect combination, as it challenges your imagination and inner child to believe the impossible. The novel follows the story of an American girl who moved to London in 1952, and who literally had a magical adventure in the first three weeks of her being in London. It was a little slow in starting off, but that's pretty common. The only part that wasn't quite believable was that the classic pretty-snobby-rich girl was actually helpful for no reason at all, and ended up being friends with the heroine. The herbal magic and teenage heroes in the story reminded me of the Nicholas Flamel series by Michael Scott, which I also enjoyed immensely. I liked that the author tied-in the heroine's "present-day" adult self into the novel and didn't just give us the story by itself, as it made the story seem more realistic. Being a YA novel, the prose was simple, but not overly juvenile or bothersome. Overall, the story was extremely enjoyable, and I would love to see a sequel written.
