As I told the folks on DorothyL:
This isn't the kind of book I'd ordinarily read. After all, the narrator is a
dog! This is one of the books I got in my book bag at Bouchercon. I decided to
start reading & see if I'd continue reading.
I've got to say, Quinn does a masterful job with the personality of Chet, the
dog. I could almost feel like Chet as I was reading. Chet belongs to Bernie,
though Chet always refers to Bernie as his friend and partner. Bernie is a P.I.
who is a bit down on his luck. He's divorced & only gets to see his son
infrequently. Bernie has quit smoking, mostly, and fights the urge & sometimes
gives in.
Bernie is approached by a divorced woman to search for her missing daughter. Her
ex-husband, a big time entrepreneur, says Madison has just run away. Cynthia is
sure that's not the truth.
Along the way, Chet has a few adventures that put him in danger. He's more aware
of what is happening regarding the disappearance of Madison than Bernie much of
the time. They are both finding that searching for the missing girl puts them in
danger.
There's a hint of a romance for Chet, though he never even sees the female dog.
Bernie is finding out that he may be finding a new romance of his own with a
newspaper reporter who has done a story on him.
I finished the book, mostly satisfied. For those of you who might enjoy an
intriguing mystery, even though the protagonist is a dog, I recommend this book.
