it was amazing

this is my favorite childhood book. maybe my favorite adult book. it's about the time in NYC when the big trucks were crowding the streets and pushing out the pushcarts. the pushcarts were operated by a bevy of older and younger new yorkers, mostly immigrants, mostly outcasts and very lovely people. the pushcarts take on the corporate truck companies in an all-out people's war and win! this is the best read aloud book and just makes you feel great about everything. it's like May Day meets Sesame Street, but with no puppets and more class analysis.
