Laurel's re-education about fairy life continues in this sequel to Wings, when she spends the summer at the Avalon Academy learning how to mix potions, dress like a fairy, and fight trolls. Laurel, David and her family are in greater danger than before from Mr. Barnes, who now seeks revenge for Laurel's actions in the earlier book. Additionally, her feelings for both David and Tamani intensify to the point where she knows that she will be forced to choose between them in order to be fair to both of them. She is also conflicted about whether she should live her live in Avalon with the fairies or in the human world where she can help to protect her parents. This book is again more an exploration of Laurel's self-discovery than it is a suspenseful action story, but Laurel and David do face danger in a couple of situations, and this time, their friend Chelsea becomes involved, as well as a mysterious troll-hunter, Klea. Although the immediate conflict(s) in this story are resolved, we will have to wait until the next installment in the Wings series to find out what Tamani's secret plan is.
