I loved reading The Kitchen House. A young girl emigrating from Ireland ends up losing her family and being an indentured servant on the ship captains plantation. She becomes family with the slaves living on the plantation and we are given the opportunity to see how this friendship impacts the lives of the Plantation owner, the slaves and the girl herself. It is narrated by two characters whose voices contrast to weave a beautiful tale.
