I often use Abraham Lincoln as inspiration in persevering despite failure. However, I know little about him and don't usually care to learn more, being not a fan of reading biographies. However, the title caught my eye and the premise was just too intriguing for me not to check it out. I found myself caught up in Lincoln's life and the Civil War seen through the prism of a vampire infestation in America. Mr. Grahame-Smith does a very clever job of weaving together real facts, carefully-doctored photos, and vampire lore so that the events in Lincoln's life and leading up to the Civil War take on a whole new nuance of meaning. I also managed to learn a LOT about history while thoroughly enjoying myself. My only complaint is that occasionally, in explaining the history behind everything, the story's forward momentum suffers a bit.

It truly made me wish Lincoln was truly a vampire hunter though I know this was a work of fiction...or is it? Recommended for both vampire and history buffs.
