If You Give a Mouse a Cookie is the title of a book by Laura Joffe Numeroff. Its plot deals with a boy who, when sitting on the grass outside his house eating a cookie, discovers a little mouse. He kindly gives a cookie to the mouse. After eating a cookie, the mouse has some milk and then decides to clean his face. This starts simply enough, but the mouse keeps getting distracted and is constantly moving on to other projects, leaving unfinished ones behind resulting in an amusing sequence of events. The illustrations beautifully and vividly shows the gigantic mess this mouse causes and the numerous trials the tolerant child endures by never denying the mouse any hospitality, before being so exhausted that he falls asleep on his desk. I recommend this book for preschoolers aged between three and five and is guaranteed to be a bedroom favourite with children and adults. The memorable book encourages young children to make predictions and teaches cause and effect in a fun way. This book will always have the children wanting more and more and Laura Joffe Numeroff offers this with many other adventures that this little mouse goes on.
