I was let down by the lack of real mystery or romance, but the setting in the Scottish highlands and flow of the writing made it nice for a one-time read.

610387 Yay, you've discovered Mary Stewart! Stormy Petrel is one of her less interesting books, but even then it's still pretty good.

I think you'd like Nine Coaches Waiting -- very gothic and romantic and suspenseful.

504256 Yes! It's the first book without much mystery or romance (I thought the whole time she was going to discover Ewen was the good one) that I've enjoyed. I'm collecting her books from bookmooch right now, and I think Nine Coaches Waiting is on its way. :-)
