** spoiler alert ** Finally, an Austen-verse novel where the Mr Darcy-based character doesn't get the girl! Not that I and every other (mostly female) Austen fan alive doesn't adore Mr Darcy but, if we're all truly honest with ourselves, Mr Darcy has become that brass ring of relationships and possibly has ruined more than one through no fault of his own. I think more of us than we realize each hope to find our own Mr Darcy more than we realize which has an impact on the actual men in our lives and how we view and relate to them.

Still, I can't really sympathize with Claire, because her sister is right: no one gets used who doesn't want to be used. That sort of admitted co-dependency drives me crazy. Possibly even more when it is admitted and yet allowed to continue.
