Steve is an intelligent high school senior, recently moved from Texas to California, in danger of not graduating. His high school counselor proposes he write a 100-page paper on how and why he came to California in lieu of the English credit Steve is missing on his transcript. As Steve writes, he flashes back between the past and the present and the reader also comes to learn how Steve went from promising high school writer to a pot-smoking flunkie.
I didn't love the ending of this book, it felt like the author ran out of steam at the end. Still, it's entertaining enough that I didn't regret my decision to read it. I did get a little confused by the flashbacks at first though, since they involve him moving between his parents' houses (they are divorced).
