Boring!!!! So much potential, and I just couldn't do it. I really did try. At about page 170 or so, I gave up. Too many other books out there. If you have read it and think I owe this story another chance...please share! I would love to hear what you thought.

Temaire' We already talked about this some, but I totally agree with you. Of course, you made it a lot farther in to the book than I did. I hated it! :)

Robert I suppose you either like Hardy or you don't. I read Far From the Madding Crowd and Jude the Obscure over 40 years ago and have been eager to get back to Hardy ever since. Unfortunately, for people like me, he quit writing novels after the Victorian reaction he got to Jude the Obscure and it didn't take me long to read all that are currently available to me. I wish there were more.

His novels stay with me in a way that most modern ones don't.
