Although this book is the author's attempt to complete the story of Margaret Mitchell's Scarlett O'Hara from "Gone With the Wind", it should not be compared to the original book unfairly. The Margaret Mitchell Estate chose Ms. Ripley to write this book, and she does an excellent job. One must remember that each author has her own strengths and weaknesses, and judge each on her own merits. That being said, I liked Ripley's book. The character, Scarlett, as the book begins, is still the same spoiled, hard-headed woman she was at the end of "Gone With the Wind," and Ripley does a grand job of showing her maturing and facing her own self-perpetuated problems. From Atlanta to Charleston to Ireland, Scarlett's life after Rhett leaves her and Melanie's funeral is a full, fun romp. All very believeable, all very well written and well researched. I liked it!
