CIP: none
Summary: Moomintroll and his friend Sniff find several mysterious signs and then set out to determine whether or not the comet that they can see will hit the earth.

Review: Translated from Finnish, this book tends to assume that you already know these characters, as they are extremely popular and well-known in Finland. One can still follow the story-line with no trouble however. It is quite simple and should have been more exciting than it was. Best for ages 6-10 who like slightly fantastical stories.

HornBook says: "A gentle, offbeat fantasy."
Washington Post Book World says: "I found the writing and invention as appealing as ever."

Actually, it was translated from Swedish. Her language in the original is part of the charm of the book... it manages at the same time to be poetic and ironic, always a hard one to pull off. A bit like Winnie the Pooh. I read it as an adult and loved it.
