Oh Mr. Dickens, how well you write! This wonderful book provoked tears and laughter in equal measure; a pleasure from the very first page to the very last! Having read some Dickens already, it came as no surprise that the characters in this story are quite brilliant: leaping off the page and into my imagination - there to become much beloved! The writing is of course exquisitely charming. Every turn of phrase and mannerism of speech.

Of the charges laid at Dickens' door of over-sentimentality, I can only say that his ability to create real joy within the pages of his stories is a gift, and I don't believe for a minute that the comparatively happy ending in this tale detracts in the least from its quality.

So genuine. An absolute delight.
